Behavior Policy
At Adventures in Spanish, we are committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment where every child feels safe, respected, and inspired to learn. Our goal is to provide a space where children can thrive through fun, structured games and enriching activities—all while building community and language skills.
We treat all children with kindness and respect, and we expect the same in return toward our staff and fellow students.
Unacceptable Behavior
We have a zero-tolerance policy for the following behaviors:
-
Harassment, intimidation, or bullying
-
Physical aggression (kicking, hitting, pushing, etc.)
-
Racial slurs or discriminatory language
-
Repeated disruptions to the learning environment
-
Any behavior deemed unsafe or inappropriate by staff
Steps We Take
If behavioral issues arise, our approach is gentle but firm:
-
Redirection and reminders — We will respectfully speak to the child and ask them to adjust their behavior. This will be done up to 2–3 times if necessary.
-
Parent communication — If behavior does not improve, we will contact parents to discuss the situation. You may also be asked to pick your child up early.
-
Parental support — If the issue persists, we may request that a parent or guardian attend class with the child to provide support.
-
Removal from the program — In cases where the behavior continues without improvement, the child may be withdrawn from the program. Refunds, if applicable, will follow the current refund policy outlined above.
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn Spanish in a fun and safe environment. Thank you for your understanding and partnership in supporting a positive experience for all students!
Late Pick-Up Policy
At Adventures in Spanish, the safety and well-being of your child are our top priorities. To ensure the safety of all children, we have implemented the following policy regarding late pick-up:
Authorized Pick-Up
-
If the person arriving to pick up a child is unfamiliar to staff, we will check the child’s file for approved alternate pick-up persons.
-
If the person is not listed as authorized and no prior arrangements were made, the child will not be released until confirmation is obtained from the parent/guardian.
Health & Safety Concerns
-
If a parent or authorized pick-up person appears unwell or intoxicated, and staff are concerned about the child’s safety, the staff will recommend not allowing the child to leave with that person.
-
In such cases, the primary and/or secondary contact listed in the registration will be called to arrange alternative pick-up.
Late Pick-Up Charges
We understand that sometimes delays happen. However, to respect our teachers' time and responsibilities, please notify the teacher in advance if you anticipate being late. We have implemented the following late pick-up fees:
-
First 5 minutes: Grace period (no charge).
-
First 15 minutes (including the grace period): $1 per minute.
-
After 15 minutes: $2 per minute, including the initial 15 minutes, until the child is picked up.
Note: If a parent/guardian is late 5 or more times, we may ask the child to be removed from the class or activity. These fees will be charged to your credit card on file and paid directly to the teacher as part of their paycheck.
Emergency Protocol
If your child has not been picked up within an hour of class ending, and we have been unable to reach emergency contacts, authorities will be notified to ensure the safety of your child.
Please ensure you have your teacher’s phone number and the Adventures in Spanish number (503-284-0610) readily available in case of any delays.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and structured environment for all children.
Health & Illness Policy
At Adventures in Spanish, the health and safety of our students and instructors are our top priorities. To ensure a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all, we ask that parents and guardians follow our sick child policy outlined below.

A child is considered sick and should stay home from class if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:
-
Fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher within the last 24 hours

Persistent cough, wheezing, or difficulty breathing

-
Severe cold symptoms, including excessive runny nose, sneezing, or congestion

Any other contagious condition, such as chickenpox, flu, or COVID-19
-
Lethargy, extreme irritability, or discomfort that prevents participation in class activities
If a child exhibits any of these symptoms during class, a parent or guardian will be contacted, and the child must be picked up immediately.
Returning to Class

-
They have been fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours

They have not vomited or had diarrhea for at least 24 hours
-
Symptoms have significantly improved and are no longer contagious

No Refund Policy for Missed Classes Due to Illness
We understand that sickness is sometimes unavoidable; however, Adventures in Spanish does not offer refunds or make-up classes for absences due to illness. Our classes and programs require advance planning, staffing, and materials, which is why tuition remains non-refundable.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our learning environment safe and healthy for all students and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our team.
